Bayside Crime Report – mid February 2025

Crimes against person offences are currently 7% lower than 2015-17 period due mainly to a 13% decrease over recent years.

Assault is 1% below ten year average and 53% below Victorian average. Serious assault is 63% below Vic average, common assault is 52% below with family violence serious assault decreasing by 30% over long term while common assault increased by 21%.  

Sexual offences are 61% below Vic average. CAP offences have increased by 13% over the past 5 years, increased by lowest percentage over past 5 years compared to other 14 south eastern and eastern metropolitan (SEEM) LGAs and offences are currently lowest of 15 LGAs. All sub-category offences are +30% lower than Victoria average. 

Property & deception is currently 9% above 2015-17 period after a 7% decrease last year. Residential burglary is 12% lower than Vic average and aggravated burglary 106% higher while commercial burglary is 21% lower. Aggravated residential and commercial burglary over the long term have increased by 265% and 16% respectively.

Motor vehicle theft and theft from vehicles are each 22% lower than Victoria average.  Motor vehicle theft is 45% higher over the medium term and 62% higher over the long term. Shoplifting increased by 200% over the long term and is 29% below Victoria average. P & D offences have increased by 7-5% over past 5 years, the lowest rate of increase of other south east and eastern metropolitan (SEEM) LGAs and currently are fourth lowest of SEEM LGAs.  

Drug offences have reduced by 37% over the long term after a 14% increase over the previous 2023 year. Trafficking has increased by 14% over long term, increased by 79% over short term and is currently 53% lower than Vic average. Comparatively against other SEEM LGAs, current offences are second lowest of 15.

Public order & security offences have reduced by 28% over medium term and are currently 60% lower than Vic average. Improper movement on property has increased by 34% over long term.

Justice procedures offences have increased by 20% over long term due mainly to 49% increase in breach of family violence orders and resist or hinder an officer by 11% while breach of bail conditions decreased by 58% over the long term.
